AFC West Preview

Alright, so when I said last week that the NFC West was my least favorite division I apparently had forgotten about the AFC West.

If not for the Chargers then this division would be regulated to playing in the upstart, United Football League this season.

The Good: Chargers – With the return of Merriman to this defense this team should run away with another divisional title this year. A lot of people are saying that LT is back to his former self as well. I don't know if I believe this but his workload should be manageable because they just signed his back-up as their "franchise player" and pay him more than LT this year. They don't tag a guy a "franchise player" and then make him ride the pine behind a 31 year old has been. Look for this team to split touches between LT and their "franchise player" and to let Phil Riv wing it about 35 times a game, not a bad plan when you are returning the highest ranked passing offense from last season.

The Bad: Chiefs & Raiders – How can you tell who will be worse? Both teams have first year head coaches and have had problems in the pre-season. The hardest hit thing in Raiders training camp was the jaw-bone of a mouthy assistant coach from the sucker punch of the rookie head coach. Pre-season hasn't been any better to K.C. as their poster boy Quarterback just went down like a Jenga tower in their recent pre-season game. So, expect these two teams to be neck and neck all season long for the privilege of drafting 1st in 2010.

The Ugly: Denver's Head Coach – Josh McDaniels is only 32 years old but he has already ahead of old timers like Tom Coughlin in how many of his team's best players he can make so upset that they would rather sit out than play for him. His first move was to try and trade the franchise quarterback in the off season. That didn't work and now he is stuck with beard-less Kyle Orton. Now his remaining best player and the league's top receiver over the last 2 seasons is suspended because this coach has an ego taller than their stadium @ mile high.

So, last week I might have been a little overstated when I called the NFC West the worst division in football. Let's just call it a toss up.

Other than the state of Texas, the Chargers and the Cardinals there is no decent football played west of the Mississippi river.

As Always, I love you guys

The Chairman

KC just fired there offensive coordinator Chan Gailey and offensive minded head coach Todd Haley will resume those duties. Okay, maybe you can justify it, but a rookie head coach with an unproven, hurt quarterback spells trouble. Larry Johnson can only do so much. I also read that WR Toomer was just released after only a few short weeks of work. Remember their top receiver from last year and future hall of famer Tony G is gone. I get the feeling the Chiefs will have a season like the Dolphins had two years ago.

Pat Bowlen has got to be regretting his decision to bring in this young head coach Josh McDaniels. His attitude and ego are just as big as Cutler and Marshall's. He's tyring to prove himself in this role and at the organization's expense. If I were a Bronco's fan I'd be screaming mad.
